Custom Tabs
Maybe I'm not searching for the right settings or addon but I'd like to open my own urls in a tab in Mozilla. I see that you can do it with an addon for gmail but I'd like to add a few of my own.
Can this be done with vanilla Thunderbird or do I need an addon? If an addon, can you point me to the right one? I am using 38.7.0.
Thank you for your help!

You want to use Thunderbird as a web browser?
Try Thunderbrowse. I haven't tried this myself; the idea of browsing from within a mail client simply doesn't appeal to me.

If you want tabs then maybe QuickFolders would be of use too.

In case it isn't obvious, Thunderbird is an email client, not a web browser. Are you saying you want to open web sites with Thunderbird? If so, why?
Wow. Forgive me for asking. I just wanted my custom calendar to be a tab in my mail client...
Btw, thunderbrowser doesn't work anymore. Thanks for the info though.
Installs and works here, after a fashion. It makes a mess of Thunderbird and I don't have the patience to find out how to use it.
What problem are you having with it?

I was reading the comments and people were saying it wasn't working with the latest version. I didn't want to screw up my installation and as you said, make a mess of things. I'll just use the browser.
Thanks!

The comments section of add-ons.mozilla.org is full of rubbish, most posted by the ignorant who are keen to blame something other than their own deficient skill set. I pay very very little notice to them, unless for an old add-on I am trying to shoehorn into a current version (Something written for V3 say and not updated since)
Why would you want the URL of your calendar? Thunderbird has a calendar, and connecting to any site with standards compliant calendars is a breeze with CalDav. The only provider we constantly have issues with is that one from Microsoft. its latest name is outlook.com. They simply refuse to use non vendor lock in protocols.
What site is your calendar hosted on? Perhaps we can offer a more elegant solution.
