How do I get rid of the computer support malware that downloaded when I reinstalled thunderbird. Getting tired of the issues I am having with thunderbird.

I reinstalled Thunderbird thinking it would delete the filter I added to block a certain email - of which I received 46. Instead of blocking that email, it blocked all my emails. When I reinstalled Thunderbird, it downloaded 'computer support malware that I cannot get rid of. Yesterday and today I have spent hours trying to resolve this - it is not getting me anywhere. I had a backup copy of my incoming emails going to an alternate email address because Comcast screwed up my email and told me I should copy my incoming email. Now that function is gone too. Am not happy.

Where did you download your copy of Thunderbird? Obviously not getthunderbird.com if it came bundled with malware.

Thank you for your reply. I was able to get rid of the malware with Malwarebytes. I am not sure I used the getthunderbird.com link. Difficult to know which link is correct there are soooo many. Why, when I uninstalled TB and then reinstalled it, were my accounts/settings still there? Due to user incompetence, I tried to filter out one email address and it has affected all my email. I have asked someone to tell me how to delete all filters but have not received a response. I would like to get rid of filters and go back to the way it was set up before. Is that possible?

re :Why, when I uninstalled TB and then reinstalled it, were my accounts/settings still there?

Because you uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird program which is stored in a different place from your Profile folders. Thunderbird Profile is where all your mail accounts, emails, filters, address book, preferences are stored.

re: I have asked someone to tell me how to delete all filters but have not received a response. not sure where you asked this, but it is not in your asked questions.

To remove any filter you created in Thunderbird Tools > Message Filters or Menu icon > Message Filters > Message Filters select filter and click on 'Delete' button.
