When I search, Firefox opens the Comcast search page instead of giving me the site I searched on.

For example if I type CNN I get:

http://search2.comcast.com/?cat=dnsr&con=ds&url=cnn

Unfortunately the instructions in http://dns-opt-out.comcast.net/ are no longer valid. They instruct you to change a setting that isn't available anymore... A workaround that only involves Firefox and not Comcast would be greatly appreciated.

Those instructions are still valid, if you are using Comcast internet service. (If you are using a different ISP, you need to contact your ISP for help.) The setting is set in your main Comcast customer account, under High-Speed Internet settings - Domain Helper which needs to turned off.

There is no specific setting for any browser, because Comcast is intercepting URL bar searches at their server outside of your PC.
