Outlook says that it will no longer let third party mail apps like Thunderbird to access Outlook email as of September 16, 2024? What do you recommend?

Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access.

The safety and security of your information is top priority for Microsoft. To help keep your account secure, Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live.com email address on September 16th.


What do you need to do?

If you are receiving this email, you are currently using an email or calendar app that uses a less secure authentication method to connect to your Outlook.com email account. You will need to upgrade your third-party mail and calendar app to a version which supports modern authentication methods.

Microsoft provides free versions of Outlook for your PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices which can be easily downloaded and connect to your email account. Using an updated version of an Outlook application will ensure you are connecting in the most secure way.

How can you set up your Gmail, Apple Mail, or other third-party mail application?

Various non-Microsoft applications will have their own steps for connecting to your Outlook.com email account using modern authentication methods. See our help article - Modern Authentication Methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps. However, you may need to contact the creators of those applications to provide you with instructions. In many cases, simply removing and re-adding your account with the latest version of that application will configure it to use modern authentication methods.

When I receive junk email, Thunderbird shows mail received (for example 10 emails) there are ...again for example 3 in my inbox and the other 7 are nowhere to be found. Not in junk and not in trash. I am concerned that there might be some emails that are not junk that I am not able to get. I would like to be able to review the junk folder prior to deletion. I am a webdesigner and I'm currently designing a website for a client that uses Thunderbird for his mails.

Previously, Domain, website, and email had been hosted with the former agency.

Now we are gonna split this up into 3 different providers:

Webhosting: Squarespace Domain hosting: Cyon.ch E-Mail hosting: Would be great to keep using Thunderbird :)

How can I ensure that my client can still use Thunderbird? Do I just need to change some DNS-records? Otherwise I will have to switch to gmail :(

But, Thunderbird continues to isolate archived messages into a separate subfolder within each of my several email account(s) - I work with a unified inbox and prefer unified "Junk" and unified "Archive" and unified "Sent"... Right now I'm using 3 different email accounts on Thunderbird. All 3 of them are Office365 accounts. For some reason, 1 of the 3 accounts is prompted at least once a day, sometimes twice a day, to enter my password on the Office365 website popup that is used with the OAuth2 authentication process. It's very irritating, all 3 accounts are Microsoft Office business accounts. What would be the reason why it needs to authenticate daily? Is there no password manager to do this automatically once it's been entered once? Can I pick a different authentication method? What is the correct change to make so I don't have to keep typing in my password every day?

If this option makes emails sent from Thunderbird to any other email client have arbitrary line breaks where the line changes in the view of the composer. Please explain to me like I am 5, why is this ON by default? I just spent hours wording and formatting a work email vital for my career just to find out it will most likely look like a poem to the person that reeds it. This mailnews.wraplength "feature" looks a lot like is there to signal to other non-Thunderbird users to use Thunderbird. I really really hope there is a good explanation for why `mailnews.wraplength` exists and is on by default.

I have over 35 email accounts, which I use Thunderbird to collect. Love Thunderbird for well over 2 decades!

I am wanting to have 2 of my email addresses to be downloaded before all the others. I have indeed successfully "moved" these 2 accounts to the top of my account list (Shift and mouse). However they are not downloaded in the order of the account list.

How do I accomplish this? Is it possible?

I created a ticket, and it auto-responded to run this by the Volunteer Community. I really want this to be handled by support, but welcome anyone to give me a solid answer.

When I launched Thunderbird today, it would not connect to one mailserver: imap.mailfence.com. At the same time, Thunderbird said to restart to update to 115.2.2. After updating, it still refuses to connect. There is nothing wrong with Mailfence and I do not find anything wrong with the configuration settings in Thunderbird. I even tried to set up my Mailfence email account again but it failed because it could not connect. Ideas? Thank you.

I am in Australia and Optus is my email provider. They have checked all is working at their end and suggest I contact Thunderbird which is why I am here.
