firefox 17 takes about 5 mins to even let me move from the page I am trying to load

trying to use firefox, take forever jsut freezes and on the bar at the bottom keeps saying transferring data, have closed all logins but the same. how do I go back to earlier version to 16, this is just total crap. Can not even open facebook
