Version 4 adopts a recently viewed webpage instead of opening at my specified homepage. Deletion of cookies does not seem to remedy. DougS

On initial start-up Firefox 4 takes me to a site where I recently downloaded a file, say for a small utility of a short video demonstrating current heavy rail construction techniques.

I got rid of the Utility "dafault" by restoring the machine to an earlier date, now we have the joy of an invitation to watch railway construction every time we log on.

The homepage setting is unchanged as Yahoo. I have tried Blocking the cookies (no cookies after this) but we still get the railway gang.

We have not previously experienced this problem with Firefox.

6 days on. Thanks to all for suggestions re deleting History - provides temporary fix. Now trying deletion of sessionstore.bak in Profile (as suggested)

Try to clear the download history (Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox) or check the Tools > Downloads window.

Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

You can also check the home page setting.

It is also possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).
