how do I disable "work offline"?

more options

I can no longer access my email through Windows Live Messenger. A window pops up that asks if I want to work online because I am offline. It continues to pop up after being told to go online. After several times it says a problem has been encountered with windows calendar & mail can't be accessed. A help forum from Windows Live said to go to Tools in web browser & uncheck "work offline" button. I can't find that button.

In current Firefox version Work Offline is in the File menu when the menu bar is visible or in the Web Developer menu when the menu bar is hidden and the (orange) Firefox menu button is visible (Firefox > Web Developer).
