Every time I open Firefox my anti virus programme (Avast) warns me for the smellsliketervana virus. When I keep Firefox opened, it keeps warning me. I've disabled all add-ons (except Avast) and that doesn't work, so it must be Firefox... Help!

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thank you for your quick reply. The problem is that neither Avast, not MalwareBytes, nor Security Essentials finds this virus. At least I can perform a more specific search now.
