I changed browser.newtab.url to about:newtab, but everytime I reboot my computer it gets back to about:blank. How can I set the about:newtab to my perm tab page adress when I open a new tabpage?

If you do not keep changes, see:

You can check for problems with preferences and rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default value.

Do you have any tab-related extensions which might be overriding the change you made in about:config? You can check your extensions here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

Which steps did you do from the Preferences_not_saved article?

Did you delete the prefs.js files?

Do you have a user.js file, that Windows Explorer may show without the file extension (i.e. user or User)?

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

I removed the prefs.js folders, then restarted Firefox but that didn't work.

If you open prefs.js (and/or user.js) in a text editor -- preferably a more sophisticated one than Notepad, since Notepad does not recognize Unix-style line breaks -- right after starting Firefox, is the newtab preference being set to about:blank in either file? If not, we'll need to look elsewhere for the cause.

Hello, if you have not done with the following order, first set the browser.newtab.url to about:newtab, then close firefox (from file > exit) and then delete the prefs.js folders, and then restart firefox.

thank you

This is what I see in the "bprotector_prefs" file:

user_pref("browser.newtab.url", ""); user_pref("browser.newtabpage.storageVersion", 1);

I think "Bprotector" is related to Babylon software, as are "Browser Manager" and "Object Installer". If Babylon isn't something you intentionally installed, you may need to remove one or more of those using the Windows Control Panel, as well as checking for unwanted Firefox extensions.

I have no extensions installed, nor something related to babylon..
