I have a new website and I want the bookmark to have a personalized picture

I built a new website and when I bookmark the page it just has a plain, old piece of paper with the top left folded. I'd prefer to have a picture identified with my website and wanted to know how I can upload a picture from my computer to use as the picture icon for my bookmarked website.

Hi, Edmeister!

I appreciate the response, but that's just a definition of a favicon. The frustrating thing is that I did this a few years ago, but forgot the steps! Are there any instructions on how to do this floating around out there?

Thanks again,

Erika.

That article has all the information you need.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon

  1. Create an image in the .ico format. http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/
Although other image formats are allowed, the favicon.ico is the most universally accepted format.
  2. Place that image in the root directory of your website.
  3. Create the META tag. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon#Accessibility
Firefox will find the favicon.ico image even without the META tag. Other browsers may not.
