If I open a new email from my inbox it takes a while to load then I can't read the email because this stupid Bing search bar pops up where the email would be and I can't see the original message. This same Bing search bar shows up in place of a new tab. I downloaded video viewing software related to bing from the internet yesterday and I think this is the source of my problem. How can I fix this?

Chosen solution

Go to your Mozilla tools menu and click on Addons. Then click the extensions tab. There's an extension called Searchbar 1.2 by zugo and it's the cause of the problem. I got it downloading some xvid crap to watch an episode of Hung online.

Click on the toolbar options icon - it a spanner which should be the bottom row of toolbars, second from right, next to the apps + icon. Then select additional options Then uncheck "show a search box in new browser tabs"

I had the exact same issue; I downloaded xvid (trying to watch entourage), and I got the issue with Bing. However, when looking through my extensions I did not have Searchbar 1.2. To fix the problem I simply disabled all my extensions until I found the culprit and then I removed it.

".... and then I removed it. "

Posting the name of that extension might help another user with that problem solve it a little quicker.

I have the same problem. I downloaded oovoo and I had a slew of problems that I have almost fully sorted out except for this. I checked my extensions, but only have a few items there that were there prior. However I did disabled them all and the problem still occurred. I have since re-enabled them. None of them are under the name given above. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what to do?

I had the same problem with Bing showing up when I opened a new tab. It was extremely irritating because the cursor was placed inside the search box and I had to click inside the address area to go to a site.

The culprit was this extension:

StartNow Toolbar 2.3.0

I have no idea what that is or where it came from but I am glad to be rid of it. Thank you for the posts which pointed me in the right direction for the solution.

I got rid of it by deleting the extension "StartNow bar" that stealthy installed itself without my consent.

I had the same problem but the cause was searchtoolbar loaded when I installed open office.
