Thunderbird says it can't send a message, but I don't know what message it is talking about.

When I start up Thunderbird, it asks me if I want to sent unsent messages. I click Send Now, and I get a message telling me "There are non-ASCII characters in the local part of the recipient address . This is not yet supported. Please change this address and try again." But it does not tell me what message it is talking about! How can I find the message?

Messages waiting to be sent are in the Outbox. The Outbox is located under the Local Folders account.
