Hi

Problem:

select messages > right click > Move to "Junk" Again

performing the above action is very slow. Slow meaning about 2-4 seconds when moving less than 10 messages

what could be causing this?

system: win10

Maybe Thunderbird has to connect to the smtp before moving?

Not a chance. Was it faster when you were not on Windows 10?

BTW, why aren't you marking messages as Junk? (Moving them is rather strange)

Please click on your junk folder. How many emails are in the folder?

Hi

thanks

I constantly empty my junk folders so most of the time they have less than 50 messages.

I have just tested moving 4 messages to a junk folder containing about 25 messages and it took about 3 secs. Maybe Thunderbird has to connect to the smtp before moving?

Yes I seem to remember this being faster but I'm not completely sure if this started right when I switched to Windows 10 or a few months after that. I've been using Thunderbird for years. And it's been at least a couple of months since I noticed this, actually I think it's even more than a couple of months.

Now, regarding marking as junk, I was having this issue as well in that, when I marked as junk, messages were not being moved to the junk folder, they just stayed there marked in the main inbox. That's why I was manually moving them to junk.

So I have just tried to investigate further, clicking on the junk settings for the account, I had "Move new junk messages to: Junk folder on myemail@email.com" checked so I thought this would automatically move messages marked as junk to the junk folder but that was not happening.

Now clicking on the "Global Junk Preferences" button, i had the "When I mark messages as junk" checkbox unchecked, I checked that (also selecting the "move them to the account's junk folder radio option selected) now it automatically moves them to the junk folder and it seems super fast.

I thought the each account's junk settings would overwrite the Global Junk Preferences but seems that it's not the case. Or maybe "Move new junk messages to: Junk folder" setting is just those that Thunderbird think is junk and not related to the messages I mark as junk.

thank you for the help.
