Hello, I bought a Dell Inspiron 3646 computer and it uses Windows 8.1 as it's operating system. I would like to know how I can change my search provider from Yahoo to Google? I clicked o the arrow inside of the search box where it lists all the different search providers and checked Google but it"s still using Yahoo? Can anyone tell me how I change it to Google? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Did you change the selector at the top of the Search panel in the Options dialog? Please see the attached screen shot.

If not, you can open that from the bottom of the search drop-down where it says "Change Search Settings" or you can open the Options dialog from the menu:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Search

Any luck?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:
