I have looked in \AppData\ for cached images. I took a printscreen image then cropped it, and I need the original to help a software company find a glaring error in their programming. Normally Windows puts temporary images into the \TEMP\ directory, but it's empty and I have not cleared the cache nor deleted files. Where can I look?

PrintScreen is an Operating System function, and unless you have a Firefox addon that enhances that feature, Firefox isn't involved in taking a screen capture.

That said, you can't view the contents of the Firefox cache thru \App Data\, you need to view that data thru about:cache (typed in the URL bar).

Wow, thanks! Are there any more "about:~" commands that one can try?

No one answered the actual question here, which I want to know too.

Exactly where on the computer are the cached files residing?

What is the format of the cached files?

use about:cache and look. It will show you what the format is.

about:cache?device=disk

You can find the location of the cache on the about:cache page (open that page via the location bar like a website). Only large image and media files are stored as individual files on disk. Other files are stored in a few large container files (_CACHE_XXX_) in the cache folder and not as separate files on disk. The individual files on disk have random names without a file extension for security reasons: you can't open an application or start a downloaded virus inadvertently by clicking a file in the cache folder.
