Fresh download/install of Thunderbird. Multiple tries and I keep getting "configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?". I even changed my gmail password to be sure I was using the correct one and no change. I cannot use Thunderbird because it will not connect to gmail. High Sierra 10.13.4 Thunderbird 24.2.0 Thanks for any advice.

re :Thunderbird 24.2.0 In gmail webmail account select the 'Less secure apps' option.

Newer Gmail accounts won't work with Thunderbird 31 and older versions because these versions don't support Google's authentication.

Suggest you download and install a newer version of Thunderbird.

Thanks, that worked, although in a rather bizarre way. The installation froze and the only connection actually happened when I tried to send the "my installation froze" report. In any event, all is well now.
