Tabbed browsing does not work when i click on (+) or thru file-new tab also?

When i wish to open a new tab either by clicking mouse over the + sign on the current tab or by file-new tab menu access, tabs are not opened. it works only when clicking on links in present window. earlier i could open tabs at will.

Disable or uninstall the Ask Toolbar extension, there's a problem with it in Firefox 3.6.13.
