divx Plug in doesn't update. firefox freezes up when try to update. didn't show version on it or other plugins

I removed the divx webplayer from add/remove when it didn't upgrade over it, rebooted, tried installing the downloaded sw & machine freezes. Can't install from safemode cause need network connections.

'superadblocker' may be a component of Online Armor.  OA has given the installer trusted-installer status, & history shows it was allowed, not blocked. nothing else shows as blocked by OA during the so-called install, either.
