I get this weird suggestion in my address bar everytime I start typing anything starting with P

more options

I just started noticing that anytime I go to search for anything in my address bar that stars with the letter P, as soon as I type it I get this search suggestion:

"parent=menu________/"

I tried searching online what it is but couldn't find anything useful and don't know what exactly it is or how to get rid of it.

Anyone has any idea of what it is and why it's there?

You can use these steps to remove saved items from an autocomplete drop-down list.

  1. click the (empty) input field on the webpage to open the drop-down list
  2. highlight an entry in the drop-down list with cursor Down key
    do not click the mouse or press the Enter key
  3. press "Delete" or "Shift+Delete" to delete the highlighted entry

Note that hovering with the mouse doesn't work.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Does the suggestion have a blue star icon at the lower right of the site icon indicating that it is from your bookmarks? This might indicate that there is some corruption in the Places database -- the file that stores your bookmarks and history. But hopefully not...
