lost bookmarks,only recent ones showing, the restore dates don't restore

Flashplayer had crashed. After rebooting and doing other things. I went to look at All Bookmarks and nothing was there. All I could get was under recent bookmarks. I went to import and backup and it didn't show the large number of bookmarks that I had under each of the dates, it showed around 45, I tried to restore those as of a recent date and afterwards nothing still shows under all bookmarks, but about 8 show up under recent bookmarks. How can I get all of them to appear under all bookmarks?

In the Library dialog, could you check the Unsorted Bookmarks folder?

To open the Library dialog, you can use either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+b
  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks

In the left column, you should see three "containers":

  • Bookmarks Toolbar
  • Bookmarks Menu
  • Unsorted Bookmarks

The missing bookmarks might be in the third container. You can drag them to the menu.

Regarding the Restore feature, how far back do the backups go (dates listed on the menu)?

By the way, do you recall every using the Refresh feature? Firefox may offer this as an option if Firefox is performing poorly. After using Refresh, and new folder appears on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you see anything like that?

Sorry for the long delay, had pressing matters.

Only 2 items show under unsorted bookmarks.

the restore dates go back to July 23, 2014. and show 36 bookmarks, but they don't restore when I choose that date, only the recent ones appear.

Never used a refresh feature, don't see that.

When open firefox it automatically goes to my aol home page.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
