Currently @ Ver. 102.0.1 Problem remains. Since the update to 102.0 my Win10 PC has problems with the page update. When the scroll slider gets near the bottom the page, new images begin to load. This reload results in 3-15+ newly loaded Fb posts scrolling past so fast as to be invisible. I have to keep my cursor on the scroll slider and, when the loading begins, start scrolling up if I want to have any chance to easily find the last post I was reading. I have seen this behavior, grossly exaggerated, when I was viewing a video. The reload caused the viewing to pause and upwards of 15 newly loaded posts scrolled past in this rapid manner. My work requires that I am able to view pages of Facebook posts and this is now massively time-consuming and intolerable. I may have to change browsers in spite of my reluctance to do so.

Aaaannnd... The latest update (103.0.1) does NOT address this issue in any way, shape, or form. >8-(

I've had it. Due to the continuing scrolling issues I tend to get to the bottom of the display page, and, when the posts start jumping around, I go back to "Most Recent" to avoid the major hassle. The down side of this is I missed several important posts yesterday from family, etc. Since I have to use Facebook I'm going to make the experience as painless for me as possible. I've been resisting using Chrome for a long time, but that time is over. I have enough headaches without Firefox induced headaches added to the bunch.

I have the same problem, and I have come to the point where I launch a different browser in order to use Facebook. I am on an Ubuntu 20.04 desktop, so it's not just with the windows version.

It had worked fine then with the latest update it has returned. I think I'll just stick to using the Microsoft Facebook app for Facebook :-(

I SEEM to notice an improvement with the latest update ( 103.0.2 ). There are times when the "scroll indicator" jumps around as more of the page loads, but the display stays focused on the current comment I am viewing. However there are times when the entire page jumps a number of comments as it did previously.

  • Has anybody else noticed this?
      • I don't understand why Mozilla seems to be having such a problem resolving such an annoying bug.***

Chrome is smooth and fast, and, even though it's not as customizable, I'm getting used to having to root around for plugins to modify what needs to change for me. Currently I am using Chrome just for Facebook, but that is a tiny hassle I can do without. I may just spend some time looking for ways to get my needed plugins installed in Chrome and tell Firefox to take a hike after all these years. ( FYI: it's called "shooting yourself in the foot" Mozilla )

Also, I am noticing that, when trying to enter a reply into a comment, the page jumps to focus on another comment when I start typing. I have to scroll up ( or down? ) to actually view what I am typing.

  • Only on Facebook
  • Only with Firefox

I just looked at the Bug Report that was supposed to address this issue. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1781192 The title of this report is somewhat misleading, but it sounds to me like Mozilla is dismissing the problem as "not our problem".

  • Does anybody know anything regarding how to keep trying to get Mozilla's attention so they will take it seriously?
  • It's pretty clear that this forum is just place to let users rant without anybody taking them seriously.

I think this is the main bug to track this issue for FB:

  • 1779404 - Scrolling jumps back and forth on sites with "infinite scroll" interfaces.

(please do not comment in bug reports
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=etiquette.html
)

Ironically that bug is not actually about Facebook. I reported a problem that impacts multiple sites and it's been taken over by the Facebook thread.

awe i think it is their problem Not happening ON Chrome or edge just firefox. Perhaps they do not know how to fix it

My observation is that this problem is less frequent and, when it scrolls it only goes a post or two. Earlier FF had become unusable for FB. Not so now, but it is still a nuisance.

cor-el> ty for the link to that bug report. That appears to be the issue that prompted this thread although I have never experienced a back-and-forth jumping. What I experienced was the scrolling jumping ahead different numbers of posts in the time line; sometimes just 2-4 posts, but sometimes as many as 12-18 posts. I stopped using FF in general because switching back & forth to Chrome for use in Facebook was just a pain. The last FF update seemed to help things at first, but after using it for a few minutes the same issue remained. Of course I have no idea what Facebook has done with their code in the last couple of weeks so I don't know how things might have changed. I'll give FF a try tomorrow and see if there's a different behavior. At last some responses!

it is still jumping and yes sometimes only a few but there are times when it jumps like 5 posts . I have done everything i could short of leaving Firefox. I have en gone as far as to disable all adons . Like i said before it is a Firefox/ Facebook problem does not do it in edge or Chrome. I guess Firefox does not eith want to fix it or can not fix it or just does not care

Well, after a bit of a trial run this morning, using FF, I have these observations:

  • The scrolling still jumps (when the scroll "indicator" nears the bottom of the currently loaded view) but it seems to jump occasionally & only 2-3 posts...so far.

This is an improvement & is easily recoverable. ( what IS that sliding scroll indicator called anyway? )

  • When I try to make a comment in a post, the page jumps a couple posts to newer posts as soon as I type a character. I have to scroll back to the original post to see what I am typing. It doesn't jump after the 1st incident in that comment.

What I see this morning is behavior that is annoying but recoverable. I hope the improvements I'm seeing continue whatever the cause.

  • Chrome is quick & smooth but trying to customize it with plugins & display modifications is quite an effort...if at all possible. I much prefer Firefox and I hope Mozilla will find the causes of the display issues we are currently having.

Addendum to my last post:

The jumping continues as badly as ever. I just experienced jumps of 12-15 posts so the problem remains unabated. Sad

Does Firefox Release 104 help? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/104.0/releasenotes/

I noticed the following: "Firefox now supports both the scroll-snap-stop property as well as re-snapping. You can use the scroll-snap-stop property's always and normal values to specify whether or not to pass the snap points, even when scrolling fast. Re-snapping tries to keep the last snap position after any content/layout changes."

  • Sorry. I don't code and I do not understand what that means.

Whatever it means...

  • I'm seeing some jumping that stays on the same post...sometimes...
  • and I'm seeing the occasional jump of 10 + posts still.
  • There seem to be more jumps of 2-3 posts than previously.
