Why do I have to right click on a message then click on open in new window then go to that window to see the message?

Thunderbird used to respond to a double click on a message then open it and immediately go to that message.

Now is it just simply a pain to read email.

Is the mouse actually registering a double click ? Mouse does double click - data is received by computer - it understands a double click was requested and performs the action on the object in question which is Thunderbird message open email in window.

I'm on Windows 10 In bottom search type : mouse select 'Mouse settings' select 'Additional mouse options' There is a test. You double click on the folder icon to open/close the folder. You can adjust the speed of the double click to improve situation.

Do you have 'Click Lock' enabled - if yes, uncheck that checkbox and then retest in Thunderbird.

You can tell Thunderbird to always open messages in a new message window.

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Options - General - Reading & Display
