I want to stop Firefox from overwriting the current tab when I click a link. I want firefox to open all links in new tabs by default.

There are two relevant preferences in about:config. For the first you want 3 and for the second I think you want 0.

For normal links: browser.link.open_newwindow 1:current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab

JavaScript links: browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction 0:divert always; 1:divert never; 2:divert no features

Note that you can only use those prefs to divert where to open a link that specifies a target window. A link that would open in the current tab can only be diverted via a middle-click or via Ctrl and a left-click or via the right-click context menu.

None of the options have work for me? FIRE FOX opens every link, every bookmark in the existing window. This once was a very simple preference setting.

I've read MULTIPLE ARTICLES and I've tried various configurations in ABOUT:CONFIG / NEWW and Preferences> to no avail. What am I missing ?

After many years of using firefox, I am about ready to abandon this browser. Seriously, what happened, when did it change and WHY?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.
