Hi, I'm trying to import mails from another PC using the Import tool. I've copied the Thunderbird profile from the source PC to a stick (uncompressed, since it is larger than the currently supporte 2GB). On the target PC, I try to import from "another installation". I then select the source profile folder on the stick, uncheck "Accounts and Settings", "Address Books", and "Calendar", leaving only "Maiols" checked.

After starting the import, an error message immediately appears saying, there was an unexpected error. The error console shows:

12:55:29.923 Uncaught (in promise) Exception { name: "", message: "Component returned failure code: 0x80550013 [nsIMsgFolder.createSubfolder]", result: 2153054227, filename: "resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm", lineNumber: 725, columnNumber: 0, data: null, stack: "_importMailMessagesToLocal@resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:725:31\nstartImport@resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm:146:12\nstartImport@chrome://messenger/content/aboutImport.js:701:30\nonclick@about:import#:1:19\n", location: XPCWrappedNative_NoHelper }  columnNumber: 0  data: null  filename: "resource:///modules/ThunderbirdProfileImporter.jsm"  lineNumber: 725  location: XPCWrappedNative_NoHelper { QueryInterface: QueryInterface(), filename: Getter, name: Getter, … }

This is Thunderbird 102.3.1 (32bit) on Windows 10 21H2. Happy to provide any other information you might need.

Any idea what's going wrong?

Regards Peter

Size may be a problem. My suggestion is to just copy to PC and use Profile Manager to set it up. For consistency, you could copy to c:\users\<yourid>\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles. Then just start TB, click help>moretroubleshootinginformation, scroll down to 'profiles', click 'about:profiles' and then select yours.

Thanks David, but this would not solve my problem. I know how to, and did setup Thunderbird on new PCs by copying the profile folder. This time, however, I need to copy only some mails from one PC to another, not everything. I was hoping the import would do that since it says that existing or identical files would not be overriden. Just what I needed.

Do you happen to know uncollapse all the collapsed branches in the error message in error console? It has dozens of collapsed parts, and cannot be copied easily with all details.

Thanks Peter

Your focus in post was on profiles, not messages. If it's just some messages, you could do that directly from Thunderbird, exporting individual ones, or use the importexport addon to do specific folders. One of those should do it.

I wrote I wanted to "import mails from another PC using the import tool". I thought it was clear that I meant "selectively import some" into an 3existing profile. Sorry for not having been conceise enough.

Not going into details of my underlying request, I can say that I have migrated my Thunderbird preofiles from the MBOX format to MAILDIR format in the meantime. I can now more easily synch the to PCs (outside of Thunderbird) without the need for an import tool.

Thanks for your time
