Cannot play a video in SABA software for NP review course--error message "A plugin is needed to display this content"

more options

I am trying to play videos from Fitzgerald Health Education Associates. https://fhea.com/npexpert/index.aspx The videos are powered by SABA cloud. When I click on the launch button the video tries to load and I get an error message. "A plugin is needed to display this content." I have updated my Adobe and Adobe Flashplayer. I have also installed the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight. My computer has been rebooted. I have Dell Inspiron 15Z. I am running Windows 8. I have allowed add ons and pop ups. I am not sure what else you would need to know to diagnose the problem.

Which version of Flash Player did you update?

I can see that you have Silverlight, but don't see a Flash Plugin in your More System Details to the right of your posting.

There are three different versions of Flash. Firefox uses the Plugin version which you can download here: https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html Select the Firefox and Netscape Plug-In - compatible applications – NPAPI - the EXE version.

If your Flash plugin had become extremely out of date, you might need to re-enable it after updating. To check on that:

Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Shockwave Flash" on the right side at the bottom, and change "Never Activate" to your choice of "Always Activate" or "Ask to Activate".

  • "Always Activate" means site do not need site-specific approval to use Flash -- Flash loads fastest this way since there is no waiting on new sites
  • "Ask to Activate" means that sites cannot use Flash without your permission -- this is a good daily setting to reduce annoying rich media ads and tracking on sites where video isn't essential or doesn't use Flash

With "Ask to Activate", when you visit a site that wants to use Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and usually (but not always) one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

The plugin notification icon in the address bar typically looks like a small, dark gray Lego block. When the page wants to use a blocked plugin, the icon turns red to alert you to the concern.

If you see a good reason to use Flash, and the site looks trustworthy, you can go ahead and click the notification icon in the address bar to allow Flash. You can trust the site for the time being or permanently.

Adobe Flash player version that I had installed was 22 PPAPI.

I installed the Firefox and Netscape Plug-In - compatible applications – NPAPI - the EXE version you suggested above. Going to restart and see if this solves it.

I when I downloaded Silverlight I thought that was the flash plugin? I guess I am confused. Do you have a link for the Silverlight flash plugin?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Lori, they are two completely different products:

  • Flash: a plugin from Adobe
  • Silverlight: a plugin from Microsoft

Programs and media designed to run in the Flash plugin generally do not run in the Silverlight plugin, and vice versa. Websites choose the one they prefer (nearly always Flash), and generally do not offer both options.

That's the Pepper version of Flash for Google Chrome.
