The 1 GB limit is hard coded and can't be changed, so you will have to live with a cache of size 1 GB.

The question would be, Why the fuck only 1Gb limit? it is not 199X, it's the fuking 2014 (2015 next month).

 1)  Open Firefox
 2) In the address bar type: about:config
 3)  A warning message shall be displayed, click on"I'll be careful, I promise!".
 4)  Look for the following entry:
 5)      browser.cache.disk.capacity 
 6)  Double-click to edit.
 7)  Change the value (bytes).

Helpful, but would not accept # I entered giving an error msg that what I entered was "not a number".

"browser.cache.disk.capacity;1048576" was info there. First tried # = 2G in bytes & it was rejected, then tried (2 x 1048576) entered as a # & it too was rejected as "not a number" so modified this:

browser.cache.disk.free_space_hard_limit;2948 (had been 1024)

and these changes as well (opting for the -1 setting as I'd just upped my RAM from 8G to 24G & have +400G free on my HD.

Kept detailed notes (e-mailed to myself) in case I need to revert any or all, thugh!:

Just wanted to report that, so far, so good! Speed is way up, it seems; from initial boot-up speed & all previous browser pages & setting reloading, to faster access & navigation there-in as well.

In all honesty, though, though this is indeed noticeably faster, the problem was that functions slowed progressively the longer things were running (and necessitated not just restarts or two or occasionally more, but several times, hard boots with a bit of down time before restarts (sometimes settings have even disappeared ... but then, usually, re-appeared ... somehow!) ;-)

Hopefully, with this, though, no more of that!
