All of a sudden I cannot access yahoo mail via Thunderbird. I keep getting prompted for my email id and password, but that doesn't help.

This started August 28, 2024. OAuth2 has been enabled forever.

On the Yahoo help page, there is mention of an "app password" for third-party access. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/account/learn-generate-password-sln15241.html

Has anybody done this? What exactly does it mean? Do I substitute this generated password in the Thunderbird account settings for my real password?

Hi everyone,

 I've been experiencing weird troubles with some messages. When I click a message in the list to open it, sometimes the message opened shows parts of other unrelated messages, including incomplete content, lines of base64 encoded strings,  boundary lines, partial html code, you name it. Looks like sometimes the program just mixes valid headers with parts of other random messages, starting on random lines. Sometimes the message content shows only the final line of the code of another unrelated message (the boundary end). 
 I'm attaching two captures to illustrate the issue. Only one folder is affected (well, unluckily for me, is the INBOX...), so I guess that file is the one broken.
 I've tried the "repair" option on the affected folder, to no avail. Sometimes looks like the problem is gone, but then another message that was ok before shows up broken. 
 Thunderbird version is 128.1.0esr (64bits), running on Windows 11 Professional (23H2). Profile size is 30 GB, INBOX database file is 16.757.000 KB by now, with 17.445 messages. I'm using IMAP as server, and no message is broken on the server (I've checked them on the webmail service). The machine is using a SSD, NVMe kingston RBUSNS8 239GB, if you want to know... It's ok AFAIK.
 
 If you need any other information regarding this, please ask and I will gladly provide it. As you may imagine, this issue is driving me mad!

I need to use my email and I cannot lose all those messages. Please can someone tell me a simple way to get it all back? I am using different email address because, of course, you can't ask for support without logging in! So very unhelpful. Thank you in advance

Hello, One of my main contacts (my boss) has all of a sudden had his emails converted to plain text, and all attachments are coming over as .dat files. When I view them in a web browser program (Roundcube), they are fine with formatting, and the attachments are present in correct file formats (JPG, PDF, etc.). In Thunderbird though, no dice. And yes I have checked to see that the message body is set to Original HTML

I am updated to V128.1.1esr

Thoughts???

This is the second time my Thunderbird stopped receiving e-mails and both was after I tried to put on a spam blocker. Every time I open my Thunderbird it tries to receive e-mails. I see the line in the lower right working. Then it times out. My inbox screen halts 3/4 the way down not at the last e-mail. That has happened each time this has happened. All the things on line don't work. Reinstalling, Stop Norton, troubleshoot, clear cache. It seams that my password was changed or something like that. My phone, my other computers all still work. The last time it fixed itself I tried to put Mailbird on my computer. When Mailbird asked for info from Thunderbird to work. Thunderbird sent over incorrect log in info. I corrected it and then Mailbird and Thunderbird then worked. There must be a fix that Mozilla can help me with. Thanks.

All my Thunderbird incoming emails from June 2019 -last week disappeared. My sent email is still there. I read that it is a not uncommon problem but I cannot understand all the Help Articles. I am 70 years old and can use a computer but do not understand how it works. Our IT consultant retired suddenly and I am urgently looking for a new one. I am in San Francisco.

I called Support at Sonic, They checked and updated my settings but they were not able to restore the incoming email.

I just updated to Thunderbird 128.1.1esr and now the green read status dot seems smaller. Or maybe my eyes are getting too old. Either way I need a way to increase the size of the dot.

It used to be that when the row showing the active message was greyed over to indicate the active message the green would disappear but the dot still showed some shading that indicated the current letter was unread. Now I can't see any difference between read and unread. And it's tougher to select the smaller dot with my mouse.

I tried using the Aris-t2 Github userchrome modification for CSS but I'm not sure what to change for such a specific goal as making the green read status dot bigger.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thunderbird user since 2004, occasional (but should do more often this has reminded me!) donor; still believe it's the best mail client.

As of this week after updates, I have a problem with Quick Filter which I use extensively to navigate and manage my mail.

I have large IMAP folders. I've done common sense compacting etc but they remain necessarily large. While they're large, they're in no meaningful way larger than they have been for the last decade. It's not the IMAP folders that have changed!

But as of the last week when I use Quick Filter:

1/ pressing enter (which I do by habit) attempts to open a "tab" with the results. a/ this causes my system to crash and b/ pressing enter didn't do this previously, it just ran the filter without opening a tab for results.

2/ if I don't press enter, the filter runs but *usually* (not always) crashes

I force quit and go again.

As it stands, locating mails in the way I have for almost 20 years doesn't work ...

This is all since Nebula!

Should I downgrade or is this an issue that's recognised/planned for fix?

I am running a good spec MacBook (96GB RAM, M3 Max, decent SSD) and had no problems until this week.

Emails in two of my inboxes (maybe all four) are randomly disappearing. None of my email templates are showing up in either of my two template folders. This started two days ago and I cannot figure it out. Emails get downloaded, then some are just vanish but are still on the servers. Repairing the folders does nothing, but folder properties on my template folders show the number of messages that should be there. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Despite previous questions/answers I still have the above problem. When I access Thunderbird>Settings>General and scroll down to Files and Attachments, there are two relevant Content types: Microsoft Word 97 - 2003 Document, and also Microsoft Word Document. For both types the Action is 'Use Word (default)'.

I have tried downloading and saving several docx attachments. When I then try and open any of them the blue wheel flashes once, then nothing.

I also get the message 'This file can't be previewed because of an error in the Microsoft Word previewer.'

I have Microsoft 365 installed and as part of this investigation was 'Online Repaired' today August 29, 2024.

Hello. I am a registered Thunderbird donor. I was using Nebula 128 with no problems on a desktop computer with Windows 10. (The computer will not allow upgrades to Windows 11). All windows updates are installed properly. After updating yesterday to Nebula 130.b03 I can no longer send emails directly from Windows desktop explorer using the send to email recipient right click function (it does nothing) or from within an Office app (Excel and Powerpoint say there is a problem with the mail client and to restart the mail client, (which I have done multiple times). Word shows a Mapi error, which I include a picture of.

From within the app, I can send and receive emails with no problems, on my different accounts, but this lack of functionality is really aggravating. I would love to be able to rollback to 128, (not sure how to do so or if it's possible, and also if it wouldn't automatically update me back to 130)... or would also have to wait and see if the next update whenever that is fixes the problem.

I have obviously restarted both the computer and Thunderbird several times, with no luck. Tried running Thunderbird in troubleshooting mode, but had the same result.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. John

I am unable to create new sub-folders within my Local Folders, nor re-name existing folders.

I am using Thunderbird 128.1esr (64 bit) on a Mac running macOS Ventura 13.6.9.

The process I am using is to select the folder name that I wish to create a sub-folder fro, then Control-click to call up the sub-menu. The New Subfolder command gives no result, nor does the Rename command.

Any advice please?
