Hello

I created an Archive directory within Local Folders, and within that have stored years of emails.

As of yesterday, when clicking on any given sub directory within the Archive, Thunderbird says that there are 0 messages to display.

All of the .sbd and .msf files are present when I browse the Archive structure in my user profile in Windows Explorer.

The problem seems to be that Thunderbird can read and display the directory structure, but cannot display the emails contained within it.

I do not have a backup of the profile directory (yes, I know!).

Can anyone offer a solution that will allow Thunderbird to display messages that seem still be present ?

With thanks in advance

From Sept-16-2024 Microsoft will deprecate Normal Password and require OAuth2 authentication on its email accounts accessed from Thunderbird and other clients.

I'm trying to convert my hotmail accounts on Thunderbird to OAuth2 authentication.

Server Settings Authentication can be set to OAuth2 because OAuth2 is an option in that menu.

But SMTP Server Authentication cannot be set to OAuth2 because OAuth2 is not an option in that menu.

Both Connection Security methods ( Inbound and SMTP ), are set to STARTTLS.

See screenshots, thank you.

I'm currently using Thunderbird 115.7.0 (64 bit) portable version on Windows 10. For many years I have ordered my emails by using subfolders, with a large one called 'Archives'. When another folder such as 'EE' becomes non-current I simply drag and drop it to the 'Archives' folder. However now the archives folder is so large and irrelevant that when searching for emails, I get thousands of results from up to 15 years ago. So, how can I archive emails so that they are easily accessible, but so they don't come up in an all encompassing "All folders" search?

Hi, I am hoping to have two thunderbird downloads/accounts on the same computer.

ie can I run 2 separate thunderbird portals -

one for my talktalk emails

and a completely separate one for my gmail/google accounts.

I know I would be able to load the gmail/google onto my original Thunderbird account (but I would like to keep them completely unconnected)

Thanks in anticipation, HM

I have two problems tha occur when using the Unified Folder tree view.

1) The view of Local Folders that appears in the Unified Folders view (which I use and require) has lost all subofolders except for Outbox. In particular, it does not show Sent Copies which is folder I rely on.

However, Sent copies and several other subfolders for Local Folders are visible in the All Folders View. As a workaround, I am currently set the tree view to show both Unnified Folders and All Folders to have access to Sent Copies in local Folders...but this is a pain because it means I have to scroll far, far, down in an excessively long folder tree to find Local Folders/Sent copies.

So the solution I'm seeking to number 1: Restore Sent Copies, and other normal subfolders, to the view of Local Folders that appears in the tree when the view is set to Unified Folders. (Closing TB, Deleting the Smart Folders from the Mail folder and re-starting TB does not solve or have any effect on this problem. See my conjecture at end below).

Second problem is: I'm seeing a big handful of duplicate emails showing up in the Unified Folder Sent folder. I've cleared up most of this problem by deleting Smart Folders from the Mail Folder in the profile...but this repair fixes most, but still permits a handful of duplicates to remain, especially in the Sent folder. I have been running TB happily for maybe 10 years. Current setup is Windows 10 on a Lenovo desktop....my two mail accounts are Hotmail and Gmail.

I'd be very grateful for assistance with these problems.

My conjecture about these problems: They arose in past month while there were a lot of starts and stops and edits of settings for TB in past couple months in order to keep TB connecting to Hotmail. That finally got solved a week or so gao... but my conjecture is that some program crashes thar arose while editing TB sedttings may have contributed --at least to the missing subfolders n the main or Unified view of Local Folders.

I have a Windows 10 pc, which is current with all Microsoft and manufacturer (Lenovo) updates. Thunderbird won't run since the last update. It just gives a message saying, "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Thunderbird. Do you want to reboot now?" After several reboots, I have given up. A support forum solution from 4 years ago recommends deleting a file (global-messages-db.sqlite) at a location (C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\8charstring.default) that seems not to exist (hidden?) on my pc. What do you suggest? Thanks.

I am using Windows 10 Home on an HP laptop. Some months ago, I began getting this error message when trying to start Thunderbird: Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I've been slogging along using my Gmail reader since then but I need my address books from TB for my business. I really need to get this fixed.

I've read all the questions/replies on this and have uninstalled and reinstalled TB. My Appdata/Roaming/TB file only has 5 files in it: Crash Reports, Pending Pings and Profiles plus a couple of 1 KB config files. Don't know if this is right or not.

When I search the Profiles folder using .ini, I get this Notepad info:

[Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=C:\Users\*\Documents\yvfr1fi4.default Locked=1

[Profile3] Name=thunderbird IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/kavosmqu.thunderbird

I have this yvfr file on a thumb drive and I tried uploading that into the roaming/TB file but I still get the same error message.

Any help greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I have read that in earlier versions (TB 102) arrows would appear on the left of the message header indicating that a message had been replied to or forwarded. I'm using TB 115 and there are no such arrows. I tried safe mode, but that made no difference. It would be helpful to see which messages have been replied to or forwarded, and which not.

Got Thunderbird on 2 machines and both have the same issue. I did try running only one at a time and still I cannot fix it.

On a Yahoo! mail account I deleted a "Draft" folder and it was sent to Trash. If I empty the trash it's gone until I either click Subscribe... and refresh the folder list or reopen TB. Then the folder comes back into Trash. I can't get rid of it.

I logged into the account via their web-based interface and checked my folders. The folder I deleted is indeed no longer there. Not in Trash. Nowhere.

I'm not referencing it in the account either. The option to save drafts is set to the "Drafts" folder, not the "Draft" folder.

I configured the folder properties to be neither subscribed nor offline. I then went to "server settings" and checked "show only subscribed folders" and unchecked "server supports folders that contain sub-folders and messages".

I shut down TB and relaunched it. Folder still comes back. I then shut it down again and deleted any references from the profile's folderTree.json, folderCache.json and the corresponding .msf files. I start TB again, folders still come back.

Then on two AIM accounts I have again phantom "Draft" folders in each. They're unchecked from sync and offline availability. Again I go to "subscribe..." and uncheck them. They don't disappear. I have "show only subscribed folders" checked and still the folders show. I then click Refresh in the subscribe dialog to reload the folder list. They're all checked again.

How do I get rid of these folders? Particularly bewildering is the Yahoo! case where I've explicitly told TB that the account server does not support folders within folders, I don't understand how it can read anything client- or server- side and still reach the conclusion that it needs to restore a "Draft" folder in Trash.

These issues are happening exactly the same on 2 different Windows machines both running TB, affecting the same accounts.

I have been running Thunderbird for almost seven years now, and these behaviors have persisted since day one on my laptop and desktop computer. First, I have five accounts set up. I am running two add-ons (Provider for Google Calendar, and Quicktext). I am currently running a snap version 115.12.2 of Thunderbird on both machines and they both are running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Plenty of RAM and plenty of free disk space.

Here are the two issues...

1. More often than not, when an email comes into one of the inboxes and I am viewing the unified inbox there are two copies of the same email. If I switch back to the actual inbox of the account it only shows the one. This is very aggravating and when you start trying the delete emails from the unified inbox it gets all hosed up and I end up having to go to each individual mailbox to delete the messages.

2. This somewhat relates to issue one... Sometimes when an email is deleted from the unified inbox, a blank record remains like in the image. This shows only one but sometimes there are multiple ones. Of course, if I go to that message's inbox it is not there.

I have tried all the common things like deleting the index files to let the indexes rebuild, comparing folders etc., and again, this has been a persistent problem since day one. Any insight or solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Mike

System specs below. Thunderbird is set with 1 account: A paid Yahoo email, with a LOT of messages (well over 36K), using IMAP (Yahoo only lets the most recent 10K come down via IMAP, sadly). Most emails do download and are correctly rendered. But around 10%, starting usually a month or so back from the high water mark of last update, show email source code (text of headers, mimeparts, etc.) for a totally different email than the one highlighted (a few days later, different sender, etc.) Checking the message on Yahoo, it renders correctly. There is no pattern to the corrupted messages: they can be from mailing lists, company marketing mails, an alert from my local town, whatever.

Once the error occurs, it is consistent across Thunderbird shut-and-restarts (still showing same wrong email source as before). Emails to either side (earlier and later) render properly in the message pane.

Double Clicking the message to it's own child pane renders a pane with Subject and From as blank, and the same email source text for a different email. Forwarding the email puts the email source code in as text (I was hoping the act of refreshing and reformatting might grab the correct content, but no).

Doing a Repair Mailbox (which seems to mean "download headers again, then download all the mail again" does seem to correct for a time (including the previously corrupted emails now rendering correctly)... but within a day or two, a new crop of messages will be corrupted, and the dance starts again.

Windows 10, 64 bit. Norton 360 set to exclude all mailbox directories. Thunderbird 115.12.2 (64-bit), though this has been happening since 110. No plugins, no extensions.

Are there diagnostic logs or other info I can share that can help us figure this out? I really like Thunderbird, but it's just unusable here. Outlook, Apple mail, other tools don't seem to have this problem.

When I click on a link from thunderbird mail to a specific website, it takes me to a log in page in the specified website where the email is automatically filled in. In firefox browser, I have cleared history for all time, including "form and search history", cookies, cache, browsing and download history, active log ins, site settings, and offline website data. I have deleted my log in for the specific website (the id and password for the site in settings, password section. In Thunderbird, I also deleted, in the Privacy and Security section, all "saved passwords" When I open up the page of the specific website in question, through Thunderbird, I continue to see on the log in page, that an old email I no longer use is entered automatically. When I type in firefox browser the same specified website, the old email address does not show up. That makes me think that the log in information is stored somewhere in Thunderbird, not firefox. What is the solution to remove this information whereever it has been stored?

I hope someone can help, I've changed all the settings in Thunderbird for my whole family's emails (hotmail.co.uk, hotmail.com, live.co.uk) from Normal Password to OAuth2. All incoming and outgoing servers are exactly the same as Microsoft advised. None of my accounts work, neither for sending or receiving.

I removed one account and tried to re-add it (that was the advice given if the first method didn't work) but when it tries to check the password, it takes forever. I've tried to manually configure it but it wouldn't download any folders or emails. I removed it and tried to re-add it but have been unable to do even that.

My default account hasn't been able to send more than 25% of emails for a few weeks. I'm up to date with all updates and I've restarted Thunderbird and my laptop countless times.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Does this exist and if so please how do I find it?

if it does not exist could the developers please kindly consider adding it into future thunderbirds?

As of Sunday, Thunderbird can no longer reach my ATT server to download email. It has behaved for ten to fifteen years. Last time someone at ATT fixed it. I have been on the phone or on screen with ATT most of my waking hours since Sunday. (In the process I lost my internet, my landline, my cell connection, etc.) Everything is restored except the connection between Thunderbird and ATT. Everyone thinks changing my password will do it. Done it four times. It gets me into the ATT mail. I have replaced the password in Thunderbird settings with it to no avail. Is there anything you can think of? Not only is Thunderbird more attractive than ATT, I have thirty years of mail boxes there, a continuation from Eudora. I will appreciate your wisdom.

Please advice for help!
