Force addon update during launch

more options

Hi,

I've been looking for a way to force installed addons to update at launch, but haven't had much success. My real motivation behind this is to have a master profile, and use disposable copies for throwaway web browsing. I understand that private browsing mode provides something in that vein, but there are limitations in the way it has been implemented, and I would like to have an entirely separate preconfigured firefox instance for each usage.

Is there a way to do this, or to force install the most current version of an addon from the repositories and to initiate it from the command line?

Thanks,

-cb

This should be set to auto-update by default.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager.
Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions.
Press the gear icon.

Beyond the automatic update for add-ons being initially set to doing so (as Fred mentioned in his answer), Firefox does look for add-on updates with the first "launch" of Firefox each day that you use it.
