Can't stop the program from storing passwords
My training and experience has taught me not to store or use a password manager on any of my computers because they can be compromised. I tried setting up Thunderbird so that it save the login and password information from each session. I found that the only way to partially inhibit password storage is to manually delete the passwords sometime during each and every session. Firefox and IE can be and have been configured not to store passwords and it would be nice to be able to the same in Thunderbird.

You can tell Thunderbird to remember your account password. This is done by checking the corresponding box in the password prompt pop up. It sounds like this is what you're doing. If you don't want Thunderbird to remember your password(s), don't check that box.
Thanks for the reply. I'm using Thunderbird 60.0 and I am unable to locate the box that you're referring to. When the program is restarted after clearing the password, it will remember that my email resides on GMail. Then it will bring up several screens which ask me if I want to enter gMail and then put up a screen which requires my password to actually enter gmail. The program will remember that password unless I manually remove it before shutting down the program using the instructions from the help file. I have gone though all the preference screens and a bunch of sign-in tests and have been unable to locate the box you refer to so I can eliminate this bulky workaround.
If your Gmail account is IMAP and uses OAuth2 authentication, then what's stored by Thunderbird is an authentication token, but not your actual Google account password. You should make yourself familiar with how OAuth2 works.
