Thunderbird supports two kinds of authentication with Google oauth and simple password. What happens with the two is not the same thing.

If Thunderbird asks you for your password, there is a check box in the dialog offering to save the password.

In oAuth you log in with Thunderbird is a browser mode and while your password usually ends up in the saved passwords, an authentication token is actually issued by Google and used, until it expires. So a change of password may not result in a prompt for the new password for a time.

The browser mode in my Thunderbird just doesn't work it opens but goes nowhere and none of the links in it work.

You do not open any browser in Thunderbird.

Go to Options-Security-Passwords-Saved Passwords Click Show Passwords

What do you have for the Gmail account? Your normal password? Right click it and select Edit Password If you see a long character string you are using Oauth and that is the gmail token Matt is talking about.

Is there any way to make Thunderbird get a new Oauth?

Same procedure as above except right click and select Delete password.

That is not starting over. It is probably creating more of a problem than fixing anything.
