After working for 2 years without fault and with making no changes to my computer. suddenly when I double click the the Mozilla Thunderbird icon, the pointer goes to the hour glass display, then after a few seconds it returns to the pointer, then nothing, the display remains the same and no email program is shown.

(The most recent change was when I went from ADSL to NBN the day before, but after that change Thunderbird was working fine for a day.)

I can do this multiple times, with the same result, yet when I check the processes in Task Master, it shows that Thunderbird exe has been activated and running on each occasion.

I tried a re install, but I got the message that "Thunderbird was running and needed closing" yet no sign of it running anywhere.

I have re booted, then installed the latest download, but still the same result.

Addons often cause such problems after a big update. To see if an addon caused your problem you will want to start Thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Please post your results.

Thanks, I tried that and got the same results.

From the Windows Start Icon, Chose "Run" thunderbird -safe-mode"

Then I got the hour glass for a few seconds, then it disappeared, and the desktop still was displaying.

I went to Windows Task Master that showed the program was not running, but in the processes it showed that the thunderbird exe had been launched wnen the Run command was given.
