firefox stops connecting to website after an arbitrary amount of time. removed all add-ins, refreshed install, even uninstalled and reinstalled. If you close windows and relaunch it will work a while longer then stop connecting again.

About how long before the problem? Any web-site, some, a few?

Separate Security Issue: Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

could be 5 minutes, could be an hour or so. Its any webpage. Could be a page you already have open like you email and it will start clocking when you try to get to your inbox. Could be a link to a news site that you click on, could be anything.

The pages where the browser freezes, Anything like flash on them?

Normally, I would have you to try Firefox in Safe Mode, but if the problem takes an hour . . . . .

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar. Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open the Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Appearance. Then select Default.

Now restart Firefox.

Do you have recent crash reports with the current Firefox 53.0.3 release (released today)?

more options

You say Firefox stops connecting to websites. If you yourself do not deliberately crash Firefox does it crash ?

Do you get any error message ? If so what is the exact error message, and can you provide a screenshot of that ?

When Firefox is in this problem state and not connecting will it close down ok if you use the menu

  • Menu {3bar icon) => Quit {standby icon)

Does Firefox then close down normally without crashing or does it generate a crash report ? Whilst you are having these problems please allow Firefox plenty of time to shut down, give it say 10 minutes before you try to force it to close by killing the process, crashing it, or powering off the computer.
