I have the same problem as https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1062948, and fixed it by installing the previous version of Thunderbird (31.6.0).

It's certainly not a problem with firewall settings. It worked before, and works again once I get back to version 31.6.0. More likely, 31.7.0 (or a new SSL library version it uses) broke some SSL functionality. My server accepts both SSL and plain access, but neither setting works with 31.7.0.

What is the point posting here then? Do you still have a question?

The point is that people check here for answers. As a non-member (previously) I couldn't respond to the original post. And the problem is not really resolved since I cannot use the newest version. I suppose the next step is to report the issue in Bugzilla, which I will do.

It would probably make more sense to install 31.7 and start troubleshooting the problem. If this is what you want to do, you'll get help here.

If you want to stay with 31.6 then there is no point to continue.

Feel free to do that. But if there really was a fundamental problem with SSL/TLS in version 31.7 this forum would be swamped with complains. So consider the possibility that it's something specific with your setup.
