I click on Tools drop down menu - at the bottom I click Account Settings The window for my accounts (three email addresses) appears. When I attempt to click on any single thing - an account, server settings, Copies & Folders/Composition & Addressing etc - anything at all, the following message appears: Account Wizard (with an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle) 'An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name.

I cannot even get to the function of settings. I am unable to access my accounts in any way, I cannot change anything.

Try this:

  • right click on one of your account names; choose 'Settings'; an 'Account Settings' window will open.
  • DO NOT click on 'Account Actions' (bottom left). Instead, highlight the account name or the various groups under it to show the settings on the right pane. You can make changes there. Click 'OK' when you are done with all the settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for trying, but this doesn't work. I can't click in any way, shape or form on anything without the warning message appearing and effectively blocking me from doing anything.

Most frustrating. To the point where if I can't fix it, I will change mail programs within the week.

Try starting Tbird in safe mode http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode and see if that helps. Go into help and get troubleshooting information. use the button to copy it to clip-board and then paste it in here.
