I travel frequently, using internet access on cruise ships, etc. I recently was on a river cruise that charges $1.00 per megabyte downloaded. I would want to make sure absolutely no background activity is occurring when I do a quick logon to just check mail. I know current versions of Firefox allow me to be notified of updates, but only install on request. I just read a blog that indicated Firefox 13 would start background updates. That would make it too expensive to use if I encounter future, similar internet restrictions.

Hi!

You can disconnect the automatic updates. Take these steps with a grain of salt because it may change from now to the release version but basically you need to go to:

  • Options Window
  • Click on the Advanced Tab
  • Select Updates.
  • Choose the option that better fits your situation.

This said, it could be that you are asking about Firefox Mobile updates. In that case the updates will always be through the Android Marked and you can configure that in your phone like you do with the rest of the applications. It's independent from Firefox and the announcement that you are referring to is for desktop computers and laptops.

I hope it helps.
