I operate on OSX 10.4.11 and had Firefox 3.6.12.

My bookmarks bar and time zone add-on dissapeared, I couldn't add bookmarks to my toolbar so downloaded Firefox 3.6.13 and my time zone add-on reapeared but my Bookmarks toolbar remains empty and I cannot add to it. I have not tried adding a bookmark so I don't know whether that would work.

Chosen solution

Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar

  • Make sure that you have the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
  • Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" then click the "Restore Default Set" button

I think there are some items on the bookmarks toolbar by default, however if you have upgraded from an earlier version of firefox then firefox will have tried to put things back the way the were, unless you told firefox not to keep your data ( that "data" is your bookmarks etc)

If you need to see the bookmarks toolbar use

  • Menubar: View -> Toolbars -> Bookmarks Toolbar
  • look at this Bookmarks in Firefox <--- clickable link

Bookmark something to see if it works, this page for example. The easy way to bookmark is to click on the star in the location bar, then select the folder eg the bookmarks toolbar itself on the menu that appears.

None of that is working for me. When I go to View > Toolbars > Customize the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" then shows in toolbar, but it doesn't actually work. I've hit the restore defaults. I've done everything I've seen in these forums but nothing is working. I can't drag bookmarks into the toolbar. Are there any other solutions?

Hi jeanm321,

I think you might be better off starting your own thread for this. It sounds like your problem is slightly different to the original one.

the only thing that works right now for me is to go in to 'View > Toolbars', uncheck the Bookmarks Toolbar, then go back in & re-check it. It's a PITA but it works. Looking forward to a solution. tried cor-els solution - did not work at all (& made me lose my google toolbar), only thing that works right now is to un-check & then re-check. sorry, but am going to chrome now.

I think the thing is to ensure that the 'bookmarks toolbar items' is actually located on the bookmarks toolbar (it doesn't have to be).

Go to 'Customise' (as you described before) and drag the 'Bookmarks toolbar items' up somewhere else. Say next to the search bar. Then exit customise. Do you see your bookmarks appear then?

If so then the likelihood is that the 'bookmarks toolbar items' at some stage got dragged off the bookmarks toolbar. Make sure that the 'bookmarks toolbar' option is ticked and then go back into 'customise'. Drag the 'bookmarks toolbar items' back onto the 'bookmarks toolbar'. During this process it can help to hide any other toolbars (google etc) to avoid possible confusion. Then exit customise.

Does that fix the problem?

This is an old thread and was solved so I have locked it. Anyone with continuing problems please start your own thread by following links and prompts from /questions/new .

Google toolbar support on Firefox was dropped by Google, mainly because it does not offer anything above what is easily available on the browser anyway.
