On eBay you often have to enter six digits to be able to send a message to a buyer or seller. However if using Firefox the numbers are not recognized by eBay and it just says 'the numbers you entered are not correct'. It works fine using IE. I have found various people online having the same problem, and nothing works to solve it. Some suggest it is an add-on problem, but which one? Some clear the cache and try again, still no luck. It is a fairly major problem for me, and I don't want to use IE if I can help it. Can anyone help?? (I am using Firefox 3.6.8 and windows xp).

"Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

Thanks for this. Cleared the cache, and also removed a number of cookies. Started in safemode. Nothing helped I am afraid.

I've got this problem. I don't have a solution but I do have a work around but you'll need sound.

  1. Click the link to Listen to the verification code.
  2. Enter the code in box provided
  3. On occassions I have also found I can't type anything in the pop-up box either - when that happens I listen to the code and type into the a text box (e.g. the ebay search line) and then cut and paste in answer box.
  4. Press send and you're away.

You may find the code doesn't match the numbers on the screen but it works.
