I play a web based game called Tiberium Alliances. Starting yesterday I was being denied access. It kept saying were having technical difficulties. Ive done about as much troubleshooting as possible including chatting in to their tech support a few times. Its the dumbest thing and idk wtf to do. Heres the dumbest part.....if I come off of my home wifi and a public hotspot I can connect. If im on my home wifi I cant. I can browse Secure websites on my home wifi, play other games, send and receive email but im lost as to what to do. It has to be my cable modem thats the issue but I can do every other thing on the internet except connect to the EA servers for Tiberium Alliances.

Hello,

I doubt this is your issue, but it helps to ask anyways.

If you could, to see if your isp is using dns to block content, turn on DoH (DNS over HTTPS) in Network settings.

Ya that’s not it sir but thx for trying to help. I have a comcast modem as well as a personal one since I work for comcast. When im on the work computer (the VPN) I can connect. If I use a personal PC that’s connected with an ethernet cable I cant. It isn’t a DNS issue I have also flushed DNS etc etc. Same problem

So let me get this straight, When you are connected to the internet through a VPN, you can access the website?

If do, then the issue is along your internet pipeline, be it Firefox, your OS, your DNS, your ISP, etc.

If you have not already, please try a chromium based browser in case the issue is in the website not supporting Firefox.

I understand that you flushed DNS, but that wouldn't fix an issue caused by the DNS either nonmaliciously being out of date, or maliciously blocking. Either way, it does not seem like you have changed your DNS, so please try it if you haven't

Ok so Ill give you the entire skinny here. I work for comcast. I have a residential line with a comcast modem. On that setup theres a VPN system. That modem is a comcast one. If I open the site on that system it loads. Comcast modem, Comcast internet. Theres a switch with a PC connected to that with windows 10 on it that cant access the site. I have and tried 4 different browsers. Firefox, Edge, Maxthon, and Chrome. All of them deny access. I have tried to set my network alternate DNS to 8.8.8.8. No access. I do not have or run any antivirus software, I mainly use malwarebytes. Windows defender is disabled. I have run the ipconfig plethora of switches to include /flushdns /registerdns /release /renew /netsh winsock reset then reboot the PCs. Another PC on a owned modem same setup. On a switch with an ethernet connection no access. Still comcast internet and the dns access provided by them is 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.76.76. No access.....I have a laptop which I connected to a xfinity wifi hotspot near me a comcast one. I log right in no problem. Its not saying the password is wrong its saying "We're sorry, but we're having some technical difficulties. Please try again later. " I have been playing tiberium alliances for 8 years never a problem until yesterday. There now your all caught up.

Thank you for all the information. It points to your isp blocking the game, or the other way around.

I am sorry to say that the only solution I can give you is to use a VPN or secured proxy. This can be done in many ways:

  • The Mozilla-backed Firefox Private Network; "browser-level protection protects your connection on all Firefox desktop browsers for up to three devices, including Windows, MacOS and Linux at a small fee of $2.99 a month."
  • A friend can set up a wireguard, openvpn, etc. server for you to connect to them and use their isp.
  • You can use a commercial VPN, I will not make suggestions unless you ask
  • You could use an anonomizing darknet like tor or i2p

Thx for all the replies. It cant be that comcast is blocking the game otherwise I wouldnt be able to access it on the VPN machine. It connects no problems. A wifi hotspot is not a VPN so why can I connect from it? Im surely not going to buy or use a VPN for 1 website. Ill just use a hotspot until a solution presents itself I guess.

Hello,

I very much understand you not buying a VPN service for a website.

Your question about the wifi hotspot is less that the VPN is required, and more that not being behind (or in front of) a firewall is required; which is why although slow, a tor or i2p (maybe even proxychains) connection may work.

I am sorry to hear that you are having these issues.
