I have saved logins for several sites, all of which have worked without issue. Suddenly one of them, Paypal, does not work. I even changed the password and clicked on "Update." It still doesn't work. Now the same thing has happened with Mozilla.

Is it not taking the user/password? Wrong information? Other warnings?

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.,) and then perform these steps:

In Firefox 54 and below:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the Advanced panel and the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

In Firefox 55 and above:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the General panel.
  3. Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings. Additional settings will be displayed.

  4. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  5. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

Do you have an item in the right-click context menu on the name field to fill name and password?

Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"

Can you give us a little more information where you are looking for your passwords and what you were doing right before they were no longer there?

I found the passwords under "Tools," "Options," "Security & Privacy," "Saved Logins" and displayed the passwords.

Right before the problem occured I had logged into Paypal.com.

I am still having this issue with the paypal site. I went into the list of saved logins and deleted this account. I then logged in and saved the information again. It still doesn't work. Also, my saved login for mozilla continues to use an old password, even though I changed and saved it.

I have taken all the steps recommened before -- I always clear all history when I close out of the program, I always use recommended performance settings. If I use safe mode I will lose all my add-ons, including ad blocker and badger, which are some of the features I like about Firefox.

Since this issue (1) only started recently and (2) only afffects these two sites, I don't think any of these solutions addresses the problem. Is it possible to revert to an earlier version than 56.0.2?

Warning: There are some web pages that do not allow browsers to record or fill in the log-in information. But if you go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) you can find several add-ons that can override this, and give you better control of your password information.

You can also try a Form Filling add-on.

That is correct, not all websites support the auto-filling of forms, even though Firefox has a feature to remember what may have been put in a form before in a previous session you used Firefox. This will depend on your history settings, however, it is working on other sites, so it sounds like you have the correct settings to remember passwords.

  • Remember search and form history

Paypal's website is a little different. When you first login it will only ask for your username/email then it will change to ask your password. Then firefox will ask to store a password with no username. This is where it is breaking. Check your Saved logins to see if there are any paypal website entries with no username.

To fix this, I logged out then the login page will show username and password - at least for the US - it looks like their login page will be different for different countries. Then you can save the entry correctly.

To see if this is happening on any other site, look for duplicate entries in the Security and Privacy > Saved Logins and search for old passwords and delete them.

Hope that helps!

I had been using the saved login for PayPal for as long as I'vebeen using Firefox. It just stopped working.

I checked and I only have one entry for PayPal. In fact, I deleted the entry in my saved logins and resaved it. It still is not working. However, my Mozilla accountis working again.

I just updated to the latest version of Firefox but have the same problem logging into Paypal. Both the UserID (email address) and password show as being stored in Firefox but when I log in my email address and password do not display. I even tried not clearing form information when I clear history and it still doesn't work.

I searched for a form filling add-on for Firefox at https://addons at mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/autofill-forms/?src=search and found that it is not compatible with my new version.
