There is no (three dot) menu button in the top right beside the tab; the hardware button menu (bottom left button) shows only a forward button. Running Firefox 21.0 on Android 4.1.2 Samsung SGHI547c.

i don't know if this answers your question sufficiently but you could try this extension which offers to set custom gestures to navigate: https://addons.mozilla.org/android/addon/quick-gestures/

as for the "3 dot"-button - it will probably only be shown on devices without a physical hardware button. on some devices/roms like cyanogenmod you can set in the system's appearance settings or the developer options, that the button should be shown in all applications nevertheless - i don't know if or how this is possible in samsung's modified android version though...

hello steve, the hardware back-button on your phone is also the back button for the browser...

Phillipp, Thanks for your attention. I should have phrased my question more clearly. I am trying to avoid over-using the hardware buttons. What I am looking for is: 1. Software navigation buttons (forward, back, maybe history) like those on all desktop browsers and on the Samsung mobile browser.

2. A software menu button like the "three dot" button I have seen on other Android devices. I understood that the software menu button would be included for all devices running Android 4.x. Not so?

Phillip, I downloaded quick-gestures - a great app. It accomplishes what I was after... web page navigation without constantly pounding the hardware buttons.

IMHO webpage navigation is a fundamental requirement of a browser. It is somewhat baffling that this isn't built into Firefox mobile.

Your help with my question is much appreciated - Thanks.

is there a forward method?

Hi osbornbarnard, are you asking about the built-in features of Firefox for Android, or about the add-on that was discussed in the thread?

Which version of Android do you have -- Gingerbread (2.3.x) or one of the newer ones?

I have 4.1.2 on my Samsung S3. I have not Dr ownloaded any add on

Hi osbornbarnard, I think on your GS3 Firefox will use the "hardware" back button, and "Forward" should appear on the menu (three-vertical-dot icon next to the address bar). Can you find it there?

The Galaxy S3 has a hardware menu button. That will have the menu items including forward. It does not have a 3 dot button.

no 3 dots on my galaxy s3

Hi osbornbarnard, you wrote:

Yes, my mistake, the GS3 has a physical menu button. Please see post from kbrosnan correcting mine.
