I think plugin-container causes my Flash player to freeze. One solution I found on the net was to disable plugin-container by setting dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll to false. However this disables sound in Flash. Is there a way to disable plugin-container without disabling sound?

Plugin_container works like a kind of sandbox to isolate certain plugins which crash. This enables you to carry on using Firefox to browse the Web without being forced to restart it. Blocking it will cause the whole browser to crash.

Also some Flash sites will not work anymore and you might not be able to access the Global Settings Manager @ http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager02.html

If Firefox is hanging (freezing) it's more likely going to due to another cause.

Have you tried running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode? This will disable all your add-ons, but not the plugins. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your extensions is the culprit.

You appear to be running older versions of both Flash and Java. Update Flash to 10.2.159.1 via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Update Java via Windows Control Panel | Java | Update. Then go to Tools | Add-ons | Plugins and disable the version you have installed at the moment which is 1.6.0_22
