Whenever I open Firefox on my Windows 11 laptop, a notification panel appears bottom right highlighting a news article from cordbusters.co.uk. I don't remember subscribing to this service and I can't turn it off. I can ignore it, and it times out after a few seconds. I checked addons and extensions but searching for 'cordbuster' in Settings gives no results. Running an internet search for cordbuster gives results for other sites quoting cordbuster but nothing suggesting a service provision. I am a long-term user of Firefox on phone and laptop.

Check Site Permissions panel, whether you have allowed Send notifications permission.

I haven't changed the site permissions.

Is your home page set to the built-in "Firefox Home" page, or have you set a custom URL?

Firefox recently changed from showing a kind of "home grown" desktop notifications to sending them to the Windows notification center. Is the unwanted alert following the same pattern as other notifications? As a test, you can copy a screenshot:

  • right-click > Take Screenshot
  • Click either full screen or visible
  • Click the Copy button

Firefox should send an alert to the system to display a desktop notification, which will accumulate in the system notifications list if you ignore it.
