Firefox won't keep settings in tools/options

Whenever I set all the choices in tools/options and then turn off computer and come back later to reboot, all the settings including bookmarks are gone and I have to reset them all again.

You likely have a problem with the file that stores preferences, for details on fixing this issue see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Preferences+are+not+saved
