You can possibly create a (keyword) bookmark and use that instead.

The gmail.com domain redirects to something like

https://mail.google.com/mail/

So if you try matching with m instead of g maybe that will come up first?

Otherwise... It's not easy to convince Firefox to store a URL that redirects to another site as an address bar autofill suggestion. Perhaps there is a tricky way to do it.
