Why does Firefox think I live in Alabama? Microsoft Edge on the same computer knows I live in Florida. How do I fix it so Firefox recognizes my location?

Thanks, DT

Hi DT, Firefox itself doesn't track your location, but pages you visit in Firefox will normally guess your location based on the IP address assigned by your internet service provider. Unless you live right near the panhandle, it is odd that your address would compute out to Florida. You can see what various data sources indicate for your current IP address on a site like the following (or many others like it):

https://www.iplocation.net/

If a site wants your precise location, it usually will ask Firefox and Firefox will drop a panel from the left end of the address bar checking whether you want to give permission. Do you ever see those panels? You can test on any kind of "store lookup" page on sites for chain stores in your area.

You can check the connection settings.

  • Options/Preferences -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":
