This may have something to do with the templates file format being invalid. It's stored in XML, and if your templates have any < or > characters they may be making the file invalid and ultimately unable to load.

In your profiles directory, under the quicktext directory, check the templates.xml file for the above problem. Replace any < and > in your message signatures/text with ( and ) for example.
