There is a generic medicinal solution for PCs to run a malware check however since you are on a Mac we can try the following:

  • [Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] please take note that this will remove add ons and any changed preferences and will restore Firefox to the default settings.

Your settings may have been locked by a program or add-on. If you are talking about the search bar, try these;


Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved
