stop java from looking for updates

We have a client that uses Oracle products though a web browser. These products been tested and authorized to work with specific versions of web browsers & Java. We are currently running Firefox 31.6ESR and are able to lock down the updates for Firefox in "about:config" to keep compliance. I can disable the Java update locally though the Java control panel but this doesn't effect the Firefox Java plugin from checking for updates. This causes promts about updates that keeps the website being used from responding until said promt is resolved. This becomes a logistical nightmare with 60 users when new updates become available. The question, is there somewhere I can disable the Java plug-in update function in Firefox?

To the best of my knowledge, plugin updates are only shown in Firefox when the user accesses the Plugin Check site. The update notifications that you are receiving are from Java itself.

I would try contacting the Oracle support team for further information about this issue.

Plugins like Flash PLayer, Silverlight, Java and such are on system and are not installed in Firefox like Extensions and Themes (complete) are.

You can type about:plugins in Location (address) bar to see where the Plugins Firefox is making use of is located on your systems.

This is why you only have Activate/Deactivate options for Plugins in the Addons manager.

Note Oracle is looking to depreciate their vulnerable Java Plugin in future. https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/entry/moving_to_a_plugin_free https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/entry/updates_to_moving_to_a
