The Manage Search Engines dialog has an Edit Keyword… button that allows you to assign a keyword to a search engine. What is the purpose of this keyword? How do I use this keyword?

Is it related to the Location Bar "Smart Keyword" feature?

You can use a keyword to do a search via the location bar. You enter the keyword and a space and the search terms.
